What do we do?
We look for fresh ideas.
Join our innovative, high-energy staff and become part of a large-scale publication production. The award-winning Blue & Gold Yearbook is the perfect place to get your creative juices flowing with opportunities in journalistic writing, creative design and inspiring photography while acquiring and developing professional skills in marketing, advertisements and fulfillment.
We write.
The Journalism Team provides diverse coverage of events, issues and trends that define the year and jumpstart every spread in the book. Staff writers are encouraged to discover topics on their own, as well as work on assigned stories and supplemental content. They gain experience researching, interviewing, and writing for the yearbook's six sections and the New Student Rundown.
We photograph.
Photos complement the written and visual aspects of the yearbook. As part of the photo team, you may find yourself on the sidelines of a football field with the Golden Bears or in the midst of a protest or even at a concert a few feet away from the main action with a Blue & Gold press pass dangling from your neck. By joining the team, not only will you have access to these powerful press passes, you will feel the independent, freelance spirit of a professional photographer while building a comprehensive, high-quality portfolio.
We design.
The Design Team is the core of the yearbook production, responsible for putting together stories and photos, and creating cohesive and visually consistent spreads and graphics. By incorporating new and classy design elements, the Design Team is responsible for much of what makes the book distinctive from previous years. We welcome designers of all experience levels!
We edit.
The Blue & Gold Editorial Board consists of editors for each production team, as well as the managing editor who facilitates the overall production of the book. While each team meets independently once a week to discuss their respective work, Ed Board meets regularly to bridge the teams together.
We market.
Does the friend of your friend's roommate's classmate know about the yearbook? Does that guy know that he can be in the yearbook? Do you know someone who is new to Berkeley and was not part of the NSR? As part of the Marketing Team, you will be responsible for ensuring widespread knowledge and name-recognition for both the Blue & Gold and the New Student Rundown. Throughout the year, you will brainstorm clever and original marketing campaigns and watch your ideas come to life.
We advertise.
The Advertising Team contacts local businesses and corporate sponsors to contribute financial support to the publication and lower the book's purchase price. As a member, you will be trained as a group and then will work individually with the unique opportunity to gain real-world networking and business experience.
We fulfill.
The Fulfillment Team is the core of the operations staff. As a member, you will directly interact with individuals who purchase copies of the Blue & Gold, look for a picture of their grandfather in a historical copy from the archives, and everything in between! While maximizing the consumer satisfaction, team members learn and gain invaluable experience working with customers and data management.
We do business.
The Blue & Gold Operations Board consists of managers for each operations team. While each team meets independently once a week to discuss their respective work, the Operations Board meets regularly to bridge the teams together.
